Position Overview

As a Communications Officer (Junior Consultant), you will support the office’s communication strategy, helping to increase visibility, strengthen media engagement, and enhance partnerships. Reporting to the Director of the Nordic Office, you will collaborate with global communication teams and stakeholders across the region.

This role blends strategic communication, content creation, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement in a dynamic international setting.

Key Responsibilities

Media Relations & Press Outreach

You will assist in building relationships with journalists and media outlets across Nordic countries. This includes drafting press releases, op-eds, briefing notes, and talking points. You will also monitor the regional media landscape and identify opportunities for proactive engagement.

Digital Content & Storytelling

The role requires developing compelling content for digital platforms and campaigns. You will help showcase the impact of Nordic funding on WFP’s life-saving operations and ensure messaging aligns with global communication standards.

Goodwill Ambassador & Influencer Engagement

Supporting Nordic Goodwill Ambassadors and high-profile supporters will be part of your responsibilities. This may include preparing communication materials, coordinating campaigns, and helping amplify advocacy messages.

Donor & Partnership Support

You will contribute to maintaining strong relationships with government donors and private sector partners. This includes assisting with proposal development, preparing briefing materials, and ensuring appropriate donor recognition and visibility.

Political & Stakeholder Monitoring

A solid understanding of Nordic political and development contexts is important. You will track policy trends and identify strategic opportunities to position WFP effectively within the region.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

A university degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, Public Relations, Business Administration, Global Development, or a related field is required.

Professional Experience

• 2–3 years of relevant experience in communications, media relations, NGOs, consultancy, or political organizations
• Demonstrated experience in press engagement and content development
• Familiarity with digital advocacy and communication tools
• Experience working with influencers or high-profile supporters is an advantage
• Knowledge of partnership management is desirable

Skills

• Strong writing and editing skills
• Understanding of the Nordic media and political landscape
• Ability to work collaboratively in multicultural environments
• Excellent organizational and coordination abilities

Language Requirements

• Fluency in English (written and spoken)
• Knowledge of at least one Nordic language is required
• Additional UN languages are considered an asset

Contract Details

This is a locally recruited consultancy position based in Copenhagen. Applicants must already have the legal right to live and work in Denmark. The role requires full-time presence at the Nordic Office during standard working hours.
