Key Responsibilities
The External Communications Manager will lead the development of high-quality donor materials, including annual and quarterly reports, impact stories, white papers, fact sheets, and donor-specific presentations. Beyond writing, the role involves end-to-end project management—structuring narratives, setting production timelines, coordinating contributors, managing reviews, and overseeing design and formatting.
Donor engagement extends beyond written materials. The role also supports messaging for in-person and virtual donor events, briefings, and campaigns, including scripts, talking points, visuals, and follow-up communications. Additionally, the manager will help disseminate research findings, randomized controlled trial results, and evidence-based publications in formats that are accessible and meaningful to donor audiences.
Measurement and optimization are also part of the job. By tracking donor engagement and analyzing how communications influence retention and satisfaction, the External Communications Manager will continuously strengthen VisionSpring’s stewardship efforts.
About VisionSpring
VisionSpring is a purpose-first social enterprise working to close the global clear vision gap. Despite eyeglasses being a 700-year-old technology, nearly 1 billion people still lack access to vision correction, most of whom live on less than $4 a day. VisionSpring addresses this challenge by delivering radically affordable optical products and services, developing markets for eyeglasses, and influencing systems change through multisector partnerships.
Rather than treating people as beneficiaries, VisionSpring serves low-income individuals as customers who value high-quality, affordable vision care. By blending philanthropic and earned revenue, the organization scales impact efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on dignity and equity. Its ambitious goal is simple yet powerful: everyone who needs eyeglasses will have them by 2050.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit a thoughtful cover letter, a CV or résumé with links to writing samples, and a one-sentence mission description for each prior employer. A skills assignment is part of the interview process.
For communications professionals who want to see the human impact behind the data and help donors drive meaningful change, this role offers a rare opportunity to shape stories that bring clear vision—and brighter futures—to millions worldwide.
