Programme Structure
The Conventional Arms and Ammunition Programme operates through four key areas:
- Strengthening weapons and ammunition management
- Preventing armed conflict and violence
- Exploring development and security linkages
- Providing advisory support and capacity-building
For this intake, UNIDIR is recruiting:
- One Graduate Professional (Remote) – Supporting Research Pillar 2 (Preventing Armed Conflict and Armed Violence)
- One Graduate Professional (Geneva-based) – Supporting the Exploratory Research Cell

Contract Details
- Start Date: 20 April 2026 (negotiable)
- Duration: 6 months
- Workload: Full-time (100%, negotiable)
Monthly Stipend
Selected candidates will receive a stipend to assist with living expenses:
- USD 1,331 per month (Geneva-based position)
- USD 665.50 per month (Remote position)
Please note that candidates are responsible for their own travel, visa arrangements, accommodation, insurance, and other personal expenses.
Key Responsibilities
Graduate Professionals will work closely with programme leadership and research coordinators. Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting background research and policy analysis
- Drafting reports, briefs, and presentations
- Assisting with the organization of meetings, workshops, and conferences
- Supporting field missions and event logistics
- Maintaining documentation and monitoring research activities
- Providing general administrative support
This role offers a balanced mix of research, coordination, and operational responsibilities within an international policy environment.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for this Graduate Professional Programme, candidates must:
- Be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree (or higher), or
- Have graduated within the past year and begin the programme within one year of graduation
Preferred academic backgrounds include:

- Peace and conflict studies
- Security studies
- International law
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not mandatory. However, demonstrated interest or exposure to arms control and international security is considered an advantage.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required
- Knowledge of another UN official language, particularly French or Spanish, is desirable
