Why This Scholarship Matters

Being a Pearson Scholar is about more than financial support; it’s about joining a global community of innovators, leaders, and changemakers. Scholars benefit from life‑changing mentorship opportunities, special enrichment activities, and access to a vibrant network of fellow high achievers from over 180 countries.

For most students, financing an undergraduate degree abroad can be a significant barrier. The Pearson Scholarship eliminates this concern by covering:

  • Full tuition for four years
  • Books and academic materials
  • Incidental fees
  • Full residence support (on‑campus housing)
  • And more — effectively providing a complete cost‑of‑study package for the duration of your undergraduate degree.

This level of support allows scholars to focus entirely on academic success, personal growth, and leadership development.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship for the 2027 intake, candidates generally must:

  1. Be an international student (non‑Canadian citizen) requiring a Canadian study permit.
  2. Be completing your final year of secondary (high) school in 2026/2027, or have graduated no earlier than June 2026.
  3. Plan to begin your first undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in September 2027.
  4. Be nominated by your high school through the official University of Toronto nomination process (only one nominee per school each year).

Students already enrolled in post‑secondary (university) studies or those planning to start at another institution before September 2027 are typically not eligible for this scholarship.

How to Apply

The application process for the Pearson Scholarship is multi‑step and must be carefully followed:

1. School Nomination (July – October 2026)

Your first step is to speak with your high school principal, guidance counsellor, or head of school to request a nomination. Each participating school can nominate only one student each year, so it’s important your school is involved early. Once the nomination cycle opens (usually in early July), the school enters the nomination online through the official University of Toronto process.

2. Apply to the University of Toronto

Next, you must apply to at least one undergraduate program at the University of Toronto via the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). The Pearson Scholarship only applies to your first‑choice program at U of T. The application deadline for undergraduate programs is typically in mid‑October 2026 for the 2027 intake.

3. Pearson Scholarship Application

After your school nomination is confirmed and you’ve applied to the University of Toronto, the scholarship office will send you a private application link via email. This link allows you to complete your Pearson Scholarship application online and upload all required supporting documents. Deadlines for this application usually fall in early November of the year prior to your start date (e.g., November 2026 for 2027 entry).

Important Dates (Expected for 2027)

Although the official 2027 deadlines have not yet been publicly announced, based on past cycles and university patterns you can expect the following approximate timeline:

  • School nomination deadline: October 2026 (estimated)
  • Undergraduate admission application deadline: October 2026 (estimated)
  • Pearson Scholarship application deadline: Early November 2026 (estimated)
  • Study begins: September 2027

Keep a close eye on official deadlines as they are finalized and posted on the University of Toronto’s Pearson Scholarship webpage.
