Job Overview

This position is embedded within FAO’s Uganda office and focuses on enhancing access to finance for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the wood-based sector.
Project Context: Sustainable Wood-Based Value Chains
The selected candidate will support a transformative project aimed at improving Uganda’s wood industry. The initiative focuses on promoting sustainable forest management practices, enhancing timber production planning and certification, strengthening processing and market access, and supporting SMEs with financing and investment readiness.
A key component of the project is bridging the financing gap faced by SMEs by improving their investment readiness and connecting them with financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities
As a Programme Analyst, you will play a critical role in linking SMEs to finance and strengthening business ecosystems. Your core duties will include:
Investment and Financial Analysis
- Assess SME investment needs and recommend suitable financing instruments
- Analyze financial products from banks and non-bank institutions
- Conduct in-depth SME evaluations including scalability, performance, and market positioning
SME Development and Support
- Develop simplified tools for investment readiness
- Support incubation and acceleration programs
- Monitor SMEs receiving Business Development Services (BDS)
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with microfinance institutions and SACCOs
- Support partnerships with organizations such as the Uganda Timber Growers Association
- Organize matchmaking and investment events
Monitoring and Reporting
- Track key performance indicators such as revenue growth and job creation
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation frameworks
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
Innovation and Market Access
- Support the development of an online investment platform
- Create deal books showcasing investment-ready SMEs
- Facilitate access to international markets and investors
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A university degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Forestry, or related fields
- At least 5 years of experience in enterprise development, investment readiness, or private sector development
- Working knowledge of English
- Must be a Ugandan national
