Key Responsibilities

As a Media and Communications Associate, you will work under the supervision of the Senior Regional Media and Communications Officer, collaborating closely with the Global Communications Team. Your role will be pivotal in raising awareness about IOM’s work and promoting accurate narratives on migration across the region.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  1. Supporting the implementation of the Regional Office Media and Communication Strategy.
  2. Assisting in outreach and communications strategies to engage media, UN agencies, governments, and other key partners.
  3. Gathering and disseminating public information on IOM activities, both in written and verbal formats.
  4. Drafting, editing, and producing press notes, newsletters, website content, and social media posts, ensuring gender-sensitive communications.
  5. Providing logistical support for media, public information, events, and visibility campaigns.
  6. Coordinating the promotion of global and UN-led campaigns.
  7. Showcasing IOM activities through content preparation for external events.
  8. Maintaining close contact with Country Office staff for content production, including human-interest stories, photographs, and videos.
  9. Disseminating awareness materials to crisis-affected communities, particularly in contexts affected by climate change.
  10. Ensuring timely publication of media content across IOM websites, social media channels, and other digital platforms.
  11. Contributing to social media presence on X (Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, and other networks.
  12. Assisting in the development of innovative communication initiatives such as podcasts and infographics.
  13. Strengthening relationships with international and local media to enhance IOM’s reputation.
  14. Providing training support on communications best practices for staff.
  15. Reviewing media trends and highlighting humanitarian-related topics relevant to the region.
  16. Performing other duties as required, supporting the dynamic needs of the regional office.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma with 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • University degree in Media and Communications, Public Information, Journalism, or related field with 3 years of relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Professional experience in a Public Information role at a UN or similar agency.
  • Experience working for a news media organization is highly desirable.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of graphic design, web, social media, and video production.
  • Familiarity with migration issues in the region is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and motivation.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Thai is required (oral and written).
  • Knowledge of other regional languages is an asset.
