Table of Contents
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations is currently inviting applications for the position of Food System Transformation Specialist, a high-impact consultancy role based in Hanoi, Viet Nam. This opportunity is ideal for experienced professionals who are passionate about sustainability, agriculture, and food systems, and who want to contribute to meaningful, long-term change at both national and global levels.
With a contract duration of 65 working days under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA), this role offers a dynamic platform to engage with policymakers, development partners, and technical experts working to transform Viet Nam’s agrifood systems.
Understanding the Context
Over the past few decades, Viet Nam has achieved remarkable economic and social progress. The country has significantly reduced poverty rates and improved nutrition outcomes, positioning itself as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. However, this rapid growth has also created new and complex challenges.
Agricultural intensification has placed immense pressure on natural resources, leading to soil degradation, water pollution, and deforestation. At the same time, changing consumption patterns have contributed to a rise in obesity, even as undernutrition remains a concern among vulnerable groups. The COVID-19 pandemic further exposed gaps in food security and supply chain resilience.
These interconnected challenges highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive transformation of food systems—one that integrates environmental sustainability, economic growth, and social equity.
