Key Responsibilities
The Livestock Specialist will be responsible for a wide range of technical, planning, and capacity-building activities, including:
Technical Implementation
- Oversee the effective implementation of livestock-related project activities, ensuring alignment with programme objectives.
- Provide specialized technical support related to livestock production, animal health, breeding practices, and post-production management.
- Prepare technical specifications for procurement of livestock inputs and coordinate with relevant procurement and operational teams.
Planning and Reporting
- Develop annual and quarterly work plans and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Contribute to baseline and end-line assessments, analyzing the impact of livestock interventions.
- Prepare progress reports, manuals, and technical publications to support knowledge sharing and programme evaluation.
Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build the skills and knowledge of field teams, farmers, and community organizations in livestock management practices.
- Support producer groups and value chain stakeholders to strengthen linkages to local and regional markets.
- Engage with government authorities, NGOs, and local communities to foster partnerships that enhance project implementation.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Candidates for this role are expected to have a strong technical background combined with hands-on experience in livestock or agricultural development.
Education:
- Advanced university degree, such as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or a Master’s degree in Animal Sciences, Livestock Management, or related fields.
Experience:
- At least eight years of relevant experience in livestock or agricultural projects, preferably in development contexts.
- Proven track record in project implementation, capacity building, and technical advisory roles.
Skills:
- Strong analytical, planning, and reporting abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of English and local languages such as Urdu, with additional proficiency in regional languages like Balochi or Pashto considered an asset.
