Innovation Lead Position Overview

The Innovation Lead role is a strategic position within the newly established Business Innovation Lab at Impact Hub. The individual hired will be responsible for driving the Innovation Objective and Key Results (OKR) under the organization’s 2026–2030 roadmap.

In simple terms, the role focuses on identifying successful innovations created within local Impact Hubs and transforming them into scalable solutions that can be replicated across the global network.

The Innovation Lead will design and operationalize systems that allow high-performing products, services, and business models to move from local pilots to globally scalable initiatives.

This position reports directly to the Global Innovation & Impact Director and involves close collaboration with teams across Business Development, Brand & Communications, and local Impact Hubs worldwide.

Historically, innovation within the Impact Hub network has developed organically. Local hubs often experimented with programs and services that produced remarkable results. However, these successes were rarely replicated across the network in a structured way.

The new strategy aims to transform innovation into a systematic and scalable process.

The Innovation Lead will play a crucial role in building the systems, governance models, and incentives needed to achieve these goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Innovation Portfolio Identification

The Innovation Lead will identify promising products, services, and programs developed by local Impact Hubs that show strong potential for replication.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing clear selection criteria for innovations
  • Assessing impact performance and financial sustainability
  • Managing a portfolio of scalable solutions
  • Working closely with originating hubs to align on intellectual property and scaling strategies

2. Codification and Methodology Design

Another major responsibility is developing a structured scaling methodology.

This involves:

  • Creating frameworks for replicating successful solutions
  • Designing governance and licensing models
  • Developing revenue-sharing mechanisms between hubs
  • Creating playbooks, toolkits, and training resources to support replication

The goal is to ensure that innovations can be implemented consistently across different regions while still allowing local adaptation.

3. Revenue and Business Model Development

The Innovation Lead will also play a critical role in ensuring that innovation initiatives contribute to the network’s financial sustainability.

Key activities include:

  • Designing scalable business models
  • Developing pricing strategies and margin structures
  • Aligning incentives between originating hubs and adopting hubs
  • Supporting revenue growth through replicated solutions

4. Network Enablement and Governance

Because the Impact Hub ecosystem is decentralized, collaboration and governance systems are essential.

The Innovation Lead will:

  • Facilitate agreements between hubs
  • Develop governance frameworks for solution ownership
  • Create communication strategies to encourage adoption
  • Establish quality control and performance monitoring systems

5. Impact Measurement and Learning

Impact measurement is a core pillar of the role.

The Innovation Lead will collaborate with the Impact Measurement team to:

  • Define impact metrics for replicated solutions
  • Integrate financial and impact tracking systems
  • Continuously refine the innovation methodology using data and insights

6. Program Management

The role also includes overseeing the operational delivery of innovation programs, such as:

  • Program design and implementation planning
  • Budget monitoring and risk management
  • Stakeholder coordination and reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with partnership agreements and contractual obligations

Over the next three years, the Innovation Portfolio aims to achieve several major milestones, including:

Required Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, candidates should have extensive experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, or product scaling.

Key requirements include:

  • 8–10 years of experience in innovation scaling, venture building, or program replication
  • Experience designing scalable business models
  • Strong understanding of financial performance tracking and revenue modeling
  • Experience working in global or multicultural environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of participatory design methods, design thinking, or user-centered design
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities
  • Fluency in English

Preferred candidates may also have experience with venture builders, social innovation ecosystems, or entrepreneurial support organizations.
