About the Communications Division

Position Overview

The Senior Communications Officer – Audience Research and Digital Analytics will play a key role in strengthening communications strategies across Africa.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the position will support communications work in several African countries, particularly Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria. The role focuses on translating data and research insights into actionable strategies that improve engagement with audiences across the region.

The successful candidate will analyze social media conversations, media coverage, and public opinion research to guide the foundation’s messaging and communication campaigns.

The role reports to the Deputy Director of Analytics and the Deputy Director of Communications for Africa.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Communications Officer will perform a wide range of strategic and analytical tasks to strengthen communications across Africa.

Audience Research and Insights

One of the core responsibilities of the role is leading audience research initiatives that support communications planning and strategy. This includes conducting segmentation studies, message testing, perception research, and tracking studies to understand how audiences respond to communications.

These insights help the foundation tailor messages and engagement strategies for different cultural, political, and media environments across Africa.

Data Analysis and Strategic Insights

The officer will use social listening tools and media monitoring platforms to analyze online discussions and news coverage related to the foundation’s work. These insights will help communications teams understand trends, track sentiment, and identify emerging issues.

By translating complex data into clear recommendations, the officer will support decision-making and help shape communications strategies that resonate with audiences.

Communications Measurement and Evaluation

Another major responsibility involves developing measurement frameworks that evaluate the effectiveness of communications activities.

Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, although an advanced degree is preferred. In addition, candidates should have 8–10 years of professional experience in communications measurement, research, or analytics.

Experience working with African audiences, media systems, and digital platforms is essential.

The ideal candidate should also demonstrate expertise in:

  • Social media analytics and monitoring

  • Digital campaign measurement
  • Audience segmentation and message testing
  • Data visualization and reporting tools
  • Communications research methodologies
