Its Hanoi office plays a pivotal role in promoting innovative and equitable approaches to education in Vietnam. Why This Role Matters
Vietnam has recently undertaken significant reforms in its education sector, focusing on equitable access, quality enhancement, and preparing educators for the digital age. The country’s first-ever Law on Teachers and revisions to the Education Law highlight the commitment to strengthening teacher status, training, and working conditions. Within this transformative context, gender equality and comprehensive sexuality education have emerged as national priorities. The 2021–2030 National Strategy on Gender Equality mandates the systematic integration of gender content into the national curriculum and teacher training.
UNESCO Hanoi, in collaboration with UNESCO Bangkok, has been supporting MOET in these reforms, producing a 2024 situation analysis on GE and CSE in Vietnamese teacher education. The study identified TEIs as critical entry points to embed gender equality and sexuality education sustainably into pre-service and in-service teacher education programs.
