About the Role

The People & Culture Senior Associate serves as a key member of the Human Resources team. The selected candidate will help create a seamless employee experience by managing onboarding, benefits administration, HR systems, compliance processes, and employee engagement initiatives.

Working closely with the Vice President of People and Culture, the successful applicant will play an important role in maintaining an inclusive and supportive work environment where employees can thrive.

This position is remote, but candidates must be able to work within Eastern or Central Time zones during standard business hours from Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities

The People & Culture Senior Associate will oversee several important HR functions across the organization.

Benefits and Payroll Administration

The role includes managing employee benefits programs, coordinating open enrollment, handling leave processes, and serving as the primary contact for insurance providers and retirement plan partners. The candidate will also collaborate with payroll and finance teams to ensure accurate employee records and timely payroll updates.

HR Compliance and Systems

The selected professional will support compliance with employment laws and workplace regulations. Responsibilities include maintaining personnel records, updating HR policies, managing compliance training, and overseeing HRIS systems administration.

Employee Engagement and Workplace Culture

The position also focuses heavily on employee wellbeing and workplace culture. The Senior Associate will help organize staff engagement initiatives, recognition programs, cultural celebrations, and in-person team events that strengthen collaboration across the organization.

Employee Lifecycle Management

Another major responsibility is overseeing onboarding and offboarding processes. This includes conducting orientations, benefits enrollment, HR system updates, and ensuring compliance throughout the employee lifecycle.

Qualifications and Skills

Proteus Fund is seeking candidates with approximately 5–7 years of experience in Human Resources, People & Culture, or related fields. Experience supporting nonprofit organizations and managing benefits or leave administration is highly preferred.
