  • Sustainable development
  • Climate justice
  • First Nations perspectives

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the AYFICE COP31 Youth Delegate Program, applicants must meet the stated eligibility requirements.

1. Australian Citizenship

Applicants must be Australian citizens and between 18 and 35 years old.

2. Climate Change Interest

Applicants must demonstrate a passion for addressing issues related to climate change.

Previous climate-related employment, volunteering or advocacy experience is desirable, but AYFICE states that it is not essential.

3. Valid Passport

Applicants must have a passport with at least six months of validity.

4. COP31 Attendance

Selected delegates must commit to attending COP31 for at least one week, with attendance for both weeks preferred.

COP31 will take place from 9–20 November 2026.

5. Pre-COP Workshops

Successful delegates must participate in two online briefing and up-skilling workshops before COP31.

The dates of these workshops are currently listed as to be advised.

Delegates must commit to creating and delivering a small project related to their COP31 experience.

AYFICE will provide support to delegates in designing and executing their projects.

7. Professional Representation

Selected delegates will represent AYFICE and receive an Australian party overflow badge.

However, the program information specifically notes that receiving this badge does not mean the delegate can speak on behalf of Australia.

Delegates are expected to maintain professional standards of behaviour throughout COP31.

Financial Support and Benefits

One of the major features of the AYFICE COP31 Youth Delegate Program is financial assistance for selected participants.

AYFICE states that selected delegates will receive support including:

Return International Flights

Selected delegates will receive a return airfare from any major Australian city to Antalya, Türkiye for COP31.

Accommodation

Funding includes accommodation for the duration of COP31.

Travel Insurance

Selected delegates will receive travel insurance for the duration of COP31.

Daily Stipend

Delegates will receive a daily stipend for food and transport during COP31.

The application information notes that the daily spending stipend may not cover all expenses.

Mentorship, Networking and Capacity Building

The benefits of the AYFICE COP31 Youth Delegate Program extend beyond financial support.

Selected youth delegates will have access to mentorship, networking and capacity-building opportunities.

AYFICE Mentorship

Delegates will receive on-the-ground support and mentoring from an AYFICE mentor at COP31.

COP31 Blue Zone Access

Selected delegates will receive a badge providing access to the COP31 Blue Zone.

Youth Delegation

Successful applicants will become part of a diverse delegation of young Australians attending COP31.

Delegates will receive support to design and execute a COP-relevant project of their choice, including support before, during and after COP31.

Pre-COP Capacity Building

Participants will have access to capacity-building sessions ahead of COP31.

Briefings and Shadowing

The program also provides opportunities for briefings and shadowing with:

  • Australian negotiators
  • Government officials
  • Climate-sector leaders
  • Other professionals involved in climate discussions

Opportunities to Speak at COP Events

Delegates may have opportunities to speak at COP events, subject to successful applications for event slots.

COP31 Attendance Options

The application allows applicants to indicate which part of COP31 they would like to attend.

The available options are:

  • Week 1: 9–15 November 2026
  • Week 2: 16–20 November 2026
  • Entire COP: 9–20 November 2026

Applicants are informed that their preferred dates will not affect the assessment of their application.

If selected, funding will apply to the dates they choose, subject to the program arrangements.

COY21 and COP31 Opportunity

AYFICE is also co-hosting COY21 (Global Conference of Children and Youth) in Antalya from 5–7 November 2026.

Successful AYFICE Youth Delegate Program applicants may have the opportunity to arrange their flights so they can attend COY21 before COP31.

For example, a delegate could potentially arrive in Antalya earlier to attend COY21 before COP31 begins.

However, AYFICE states that it cannot pay for accommodation outside the COP period. Applicants attending COY21 would therefore need to cover accommodation for the additional 2–3 days before COP31.

The application asks applicants whether they would be interested in attending COY21, but this response will not affect the outcome of the application.
