Salary, Financial Benefits and Scholarship Coverage

The Mauritius-Africa Scholarship Scheme provides financial assistance to help successful students meet the costs of studying and living in Mauritius.

Although frequently advertised as a fully funded opportunity, the official guidelines specify funding limits, meaning students may need additional personal funds.

The benefits include:

  • Tuition fees: Annual tuition and study-related costs covered up to MUR 100,000 for students from SADC countries and MUR 160,000 for students from non-SADC countries.
  • Monthly living allowance: MUR 16,500 to contribute towards accommodation, food and other living expenses.
  • Return airfare: Economy travel from the applicant’s home country to Mauritius and back after successful completion of studies.
  • Healthcare: Access to free healthcare at public hospitals in Mauritius.
  • Academic opportunities: Access to higher education, academic supervision and research facilities at participating institutions.

Students should note that costs exceeding the tuition funding limits, books, overseas fieldwork, repeat examinations and travel insurance are their responsibility. Accommodation arrangements must also be made with the relevant institution.

The monthly allowance is intended as partial support rather than a guarantee that all living expenses will be covered.
