This exciting Environmental Media Champions opportunity is designed for journalists who want to influence public conversations, engage policymakers, and bring environmental conservation stories into mainstream media coverage. The Environmental Media Champions program gives media professionals a chance to work closely with one of Kenya’s leading conservation organizations while producing impactful environmental journalism.

Applicants selected as Environmental Media Champions will cover biodiversity issues, conservation policies, environmental justice stories, and community-led sustainability initiatives throughout Kenya.

Environmental Media Champions Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Environmental Media Champions recruitment, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be an active journalist working in print, television, radio, or digital media
• Hold a valid accreditation from the Media Council of Kenya
• Have at least 5 years of environmental journalism experience
• Demonstrate the ability to produce compelling environmental stories under tight deadlines
• Possess strong storytelling and investigative journalism skills
• Have a passion for biodiversity, climate reporting, and conservation advocacy

The Environmental Media Champions program strongly encourages applications from:

Responsibilities of Environmental Media Champions

Selected Environmental Media Champions will play a major role in strengthening environmental reporting in Kenya. Successful candidates will:

Conduct Field Reporting

Environmental Media Champions will visit Kenya’s Key Biodiversity Areas to report on environmental conservation issues and publish stories across various media platforms.

Produce Feature Stories

Participants will create in-depth stories focusing on biodiversity, climate action, environmental protection, and conservation challenges.

Cover Nature Kenya Events

Environmental Media Champions will report on:

• Press conferences
• Community forums
• International environmental days
• Policy dialogues
• Conservation awareness campaigns

Promote Conservation Through Social Media

Selected journalists will amplify biodiversity and conservation stories through digital and social media platforms.

Investigative Environmental Reporting

Environmental Media Champions will develop original investigative and explanatory journalism projects related to environmental governance and conservation accountability.

Engage Decision Makers

Participants will interact with:

• Parliamentary committees
• Environmental policy leaders
• Change agents
• Environmental Impact Assessment review processes

This role gives Environmental Media Champions an opportunity to connect conservation science with public accountability.

Monitor Environmental News Trends

Environmental Media Champions will identify major environmental stories and alert Nature Kenya for possible amplification and response.

Mentor Other Journalists

Participants will join Journalist Forum meetings and help mentor emerging environmental journalists.

Submit Performance Reports

Environmental Media Champions will document:

• Stories produced
