Role Overview
The Senior Associate – Communications plays a critical role in shaping how RefugePoint’s mission and impact are communicated to global audiences. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the role focuses on producing high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content that reflects the organization’s values and amplifies refugee stories with accuracy and care.
This position requires a balance of creativity and responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to capture human stories ethically, manage multiple content streams, and ensure consistent branding across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Conduct interviews with refugees, staff, and partners to gather compelling stories
- Write, edit, and proofread content for websites, newsletters, reports, and fundraising campaigns
- Capture and edit high-quality photography and video content from field visits and events
- Develop short-form digital content such as social media reels, video clips, and visual quotes
- Support social media planning, scheduling, and performance optimization
- Upload and manage website content, ensuring accuracy and consistency
- Maintain an organized digital media library and ensure consent and release documentation is properly managed
- Document organizational events and activities in line with RefugePoint’s branding guidelines
- Participate in professional development activities and contribute insights to strengthen the communications team
Qualifications and Experience
RefugePoint is looking for a communications professional who combines technical skills with empathy and cultural awareness. Ideal candidates will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field
- At least three years of professional experience in communications or media-related roles
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Fluency in both English and Kiswahili
- Strong photography and videography experience, including basic editing skills
- Familiarity with digital platforms and social media content creation
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with diverse teams
- Legal eligibility to live and work in Kenya
