The Role: Programme Lead, Consumer Demand

As Programme Lead, Consumer Demand, you will be responsible for leading GAIN’s Consumer Demand Creation programme, which focuses on motivating people to make healthier food choices. This is a fixed-term role for 24 months, offering hybrid working arrangements, and is based in Nairobi (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda), or Abuja (Nigeria).

In this role, you will provide strategic direction and technical leadership, ensuring that GAIN’s consumer demand initiatives are evidence-based, scalable, and effective. You will work closely with multi-country teams and external partners to design, implement, and evaluate programmes that change consumer behaviour and drive demand for nutritious foods. Your work will directly influence food system transformation and contribute to improved nutrition outcomes across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:
You will lead the development and refinement of GAIN’s consumer demand strategy. This includes identifying the most effective approaches for behaviour change, such as social and behaviour change communication (SBCC), nutrition education, and demand creation campaigns. You will coordinate activities across multiple countries, ensuring alignment with broader nutrition goals and strategic priorities.

Technical Guidance:
As a technical lead, you will advise teams on programme design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. You will guide the development of knowledge products and learning resources, fostering innovation and evidence-based approaches. Your expertise will ensure that consumer demand programmes achieve measurable outcomes and contribute to the broader mission of GAIN.

Resource Mobilisation:
You will play a key role in identifying funding opportunities and developing proposals to secure resources for consumer demand initiatives. Working closely with programme managers and the Development Office, you will help strengthen GAIN’s financial sustainability and capacity to scale its work.

Team Leadership:
You will mentor and manage a team of professionals, consultants, and interns, promoting high performance and professional growth. You will also contribute to organisational development initiatives, strengthening GAIN’s overall capacity and impact.
