About the FOREST Invest Project

FAO is implementing the “Enhancing the resilience of Serbian forests” project with funding from the Green Climate Fund. The initiative has a total value of USD 83.8 million, including co-financing.

The project aims to:

  • Restore degraded forests and landscapes
  • Improve livelihoods of vulnerable communities
  • Strengthen energy security
  • Increase carbon sequestration
  • Promote climate-smart forestry practices

Key national partners include Serbia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Srbijašume, and Vojvodinašume.

Main Responsibilities

The selected specialist will provide technical leadership for forest restoration interventions under project outcomes 2 and 3.

Core duties include:

  • Expanding nursery capacity for climate-adaptive seedlings
  • Supporting seed collection, treatment, and storage
  • Establishing seed plantations and selecting seed stands
  • Coordinating logistics for transporting planting materials
  • Overseeing planting and maintenance activities
  • Training public and private stakeholders
  • Monitoring restoration impacts
  • Preparing technical reports
  • Supporting communication and knowledge-sharing activities

The project targets production of up to 35 million seedlings of priority tree species.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

Education

  • Advanced university degree in forestry, agronomy, or related fields
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree must have two extra years of relevant experience

Experience

  • At least five years of professional experience in natural resources management or project implementation

Languages

  • Working knowledge of English
