About the Opportunity

NOVA IMS, part of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, is seeking one master’s student to join the Information Systems & Analytics Lab. The selected researcher will support the migration of data currently stored in SAS to an Azure Synapse Analytics environment.

This project combines data engineering, cloud computing, and analytics, making it ideal for students interested in big data and modern information systems.

Research Project Responsibilities

The successful candidate will contribute to four major phases of the project:

  1. Analysis and planning of the migration process
  2. Data extraction from SAS
  3. Transformation and optimization of datasets
  4. Loading and validation in Azure Synapse Analytics

The goal is to ensure a secure, efficient, and accurate transfer of data while preserving integrity and usability.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a master’s degree programme
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and Technologies, Data Science, or Information Management
  • Have strong programming skills in Python and Bash scripting
  • Demonstrate practical experience with Microsoft Azure tools, including Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Key Vault
  • Hold the AZ-900 Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification
  • Have prior experience in data model migration

The scholarship is open to applicants of all nationalities, including EU citizens, non-EU nationals, stateless persons, and refugees.
