About the Role

This part-time contract position offers 15–20 hours per week and a competitive hourly rate of $60. The role is fully remote, though candidates must be available during Eastern Time Zone business hours and participate in a weekly planning meeting. Working closely with the Foundation’s senior communications manager, the Social Media Associate will play a central role in shaping HFG’s digital voice, expanding its audience, and amplifying the work of its global network of researchers and grantees.

Key Responsibilities

The position focuses on managing and growing HFG’s presence across major platforms, including LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and YouTube. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, organizing, and maintaining a comprehensive social media content calendar
  • Creating compelling multimedia content that highlights research findings, grantee work, and organizational initiatives
  • Drafting clear, engaging, and accurate posts tailored to different platforms
  • Monitoring trends and leveraging social media tools to enhance visibility and engagement
  • Building relationships with grantees, journalists, and partner organizations through active online engagement
  • Designing and executing platform-specific campaigns to boost reach and influence
  • Uploading event recordings and producing video content for YouTube and other channels

In addition, the Social Media Associate will help implement HFG’s broader digital strategy, identify growth opportunities, and track performance using key metrics. The role also requires proactive collaboration with internal teams to highlight timely content tied to current events and research insights.

Required Skills and Qualifications

HFG is seeking a candidate who combines creativity with analytical thinking and strong communication skills. Ideal applicants will demonstrate:

  • Excellent writing and editing abilities, with a keen eye for grammar, clarity, and detail
  • The ability to translate complex academic and social science concepts into accessible and engaging content
  • Experience creating multimedia content using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms
  • Proven experience managing multiple social media accounts and content calendars simultaneously
  • Familiarity with social media management tools like Hootsuite
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines independently
  • Experience building and engaging online communities across diverse audiences
  • Analytical skills to interpret social media metrics and refine strategies
  • Awareness of current events and the ability to connect them to research narratives

Preferred Experience

While not mandatory, the following qualifications will strengthen an application:

  • 3–5 years of experience managing social media for nonprofit, research, policy, or international organizations
  • Video editing skills and experience producing content for YouTube
  • Familiarity with editorial standards such as The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Experience maintaining a consistent brand voice across platforms
