Key Responsibilities

The Poultry Production and Feed Specialist will provide technical expertise and hands-on support across multiple project activities. Core responsibilities include:

• Assessing locally available feed ingredients and identifying regional sourcing opportunities
• Developing at least three practical poultry feed formulations for training and field trials
• Conducting training workshops on poultry nutrition, feed formulation, and feed mixing techniques
• Reviewing and improving feed trial plans to ensure feasibility and effectiveness in local contexts
• Preparing detailed technical reports, including training outcomes and follow-up action plans
• Contributing technical inputs to FAO’s Virtual Learning Centre (VLC) on poultry production
• Supporting the Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Solution Forum with expertise in poultry nutrition
• Performing additional technical tasks as required by the project team

This role requires a balance of technical knowledge, field experience, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including farmers, government counterparts, and international teams.

Reporting Structure

The selected candidate will work under the overall guidance of the FAO Subregional Coordinator and report directly to the Lead Technical Officer (Livestock and Animal Health Officer – FAOSAP). Required Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Education:
  • Advanced university degree in animal nutrition, animal production, or a related field (for consultants)

• Experience:
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in livestock feed development, particularly in poultry
• Language:
  • Working knowledge of English
