About the Role

Based in New Delhi, this position sits within UNESCO’s Education Sector and is hosted by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP). The institute plays a leading role in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4.7, focusing on education for peace, wellbeing, and sustainability.

This is a Project Appointment for an initial duration of one year, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding availability. It is important to note that this opportunity is open only to nationals of India.

Key Responsibilities

In this senior-level position, you will act as the Head of Mission for Research and Development. Your work will center on leading cutting-edge interdisciplinary research initiatives and shaping strategies that influence education policy both in India and globally.

You will design and implement research programs focused on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), digital pedagogies, and sustainable education systems. A major part of your role will involve translating research into actionable policy insights and practical tools for governments and institutions.

Additionally, you will:

  • Lead research proposals and secure competitive funding
  • Collaborate with universities, think tanks, and global partners
  • Develop innovative digital learning approaches
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and impact evaluation
  • Produce policy briefs, reports, and peer-reviewed publications

This role also includes participation in the Senior Management Team, contributing to strategic planning, organizational growth, and institutional vision.

Collaboration and Leadership

A strong emphasis is placed on partnerships and collaboration. You will work closely with UNESCO entities, national stakeholders, and international research communities to expand initiatives, especially in the Global South.

From organizing strategic dialogues to leading training workshops and seminars, your role will require both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills. You’ll also guide multidisciplinary teams and mentor researchers to ensure high-quality outputs and innovation.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered, candidates must hold an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in education, social sciences, or related fields. A PhD is considered an advantage.

You should have at least seven years of relevant professional experience, particularly in:

  • Education policy and research
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Digital learning tools and pedagogies
  • Leading multidisciplinary research teams
  • Designing and executing evidence-based programs

Experience working with government bodies, schools, or international organizations will be highly beneficial.
