The FAO Representation in Nigeria is currently recruiting an Administrative Assistant (Protocol) to support high-level coordination, diplomatic processes, and administrative services in Abuja.

This is a 12-month National Project Personnel (NPP) opportunity based in Abuja, Nigeria, with the possibility of extension. The application deadline is 13 March 2026.

The Role: Administrative Assistant (Protocol)

The Administrative Assistant (Protocol) will work under the general supervision of the FAO Representative and report directly to the Assistant FAO Representative (Administration). The role requires close collaboration with other administrative staff and various technical units within the FAO Nigeria Representation.

This position focuses on ensuring smooth and efficient protocol operations, including visa processing, diplomatic coordination, airport protocol services, and liaison with government entities.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will perform a broad range of administrative and protocol-related tasks, including:

  • Liaising with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant host government protocol units to resolve protocol matters.
  • Assisting FAO staff and recognized dependents with visa applications, resident permits, diplomatic identification, and related documentation.
  • Managing airport protocol operations, including airport lounge bookings and meet-and-greet services for arriving and departing UN officials.
  • Coordinating airport transfers for high-level officials and key partners.
  • Supporting customs and immigration clearance procedures where required.
  • Issuing routine protocol correspondence.
  • Processing annual airport pass requests for senior staff.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The role requires initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to manage daily unforeseen challenges while ensuring compliance with FAO rules and procedures.

Who Should Apply?

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A university degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Management, or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in administration and protocol support services.
  • Working knowledge (Level C) of English.
  • Must be a national of Nigeria.

Desired Technical and Functional Skills

FAO is looking for candidates with:

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian visa policies and customs regulations.
  • Familiarity with privileges and immunities applicable to UN Specialized Agencies.
