Key Responsibilities

Global Village and Volunteer Coordination

The Youth and Volunteer Programs Specialist will lead the strategic management of Global Village programs, Habitat’s flagship international volunteer experience. This includes overseeing planning, risk management, and implementation, as well as collaborating with national organizations and Habitat teams across Africa. The specialist will provide guidance and support to volunteers on the ground, ensuring their experience is safe, well-organized, and meaningful.

Youth and Local Volunteer Engagement

This role requires developing innovative strategies to engage youth and local volunteers. The specialist will scale programs to meet growing volunteer demand, identify trends in volunteer participation, and create opportunities that attract young people and professionals. Building strong relationships with internal and external partners will be critical to expanding Habitat’s volunteer network and maximizing impact.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Quality Improvement

An important part of the role is monitoring and evaluating volunteer programs. The specialist will collect and analyze feedback and program data, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to enhance volunteer experiences. Ensuring compliance with volunteer policies and best practices across national teams will also be a key responsibility.

Capacity Development and Partnerships

The Youth and Volunteer Programs Specialist will lead training for staff and partners, equipping them with skills and knowledge to manage volunteers effectively. Developing sustainable partnerships will help innovate and grow volunteer engagement, while creating tools and resources will strengthen Habitat’s volunteer ecosystem across Africa.

Strategic Support

Supporting the Resource Development team, the specialist will help leverage volunteer energy to advance Habitat’s mission and fundraising initiatives. The role also involves supporting youth-focused initiatives that enhance Habitat’s relevance and influence in African communities.

Who Should Apply?

Ideal candidates for this position will have a strong background in international development, volunteer mobilization, or nonprofit program management. Requirements include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in development, political science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in volunteer coordination or program management, particularly in development or peacebuilding contexts.
  • Deep interest in youth engagement, volunteerism, and active citizenship.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and cross-cultural skills.
  • Experience managing programs across multiple countries and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English, with additional languages relevant to Africa considered a plus.
