The Role
As Head of Policy & UK Government Engagement, you will play a critical leadership role within Wilton Park. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the Senior Management Team, you will help shape organisational strategy while leading the development and delivery of Wilton Park’s policy programmes.
Your responsibilities will include leading and managing a high-performing policy team, ensuring the design and delivery of high-quality international events and dialogues. You will oversee a diverse portfolio of policy programmes, ensuring they remain relevant, forward-looking, and aligned with strategic priorities.
A core element of the role is engagement with the UK government. You will build and maintain strong relationships with government departments, advising on policy priorities and identifying opportunities for collaboration. In addition, you will work closely with international organisations, think tanks, non-governmental organisations, and private sector partners to develop inclusive and impactful policy initiatives.
You will also contribute to organisational growth by supporting business development activities, strengthening partnerships, and identifying new opportunities to expand Wilton Park’s reach and influence.

Who Wilton Park Is Looking For
This role is suited to a senior professional with extensive experience in public policy, international relations, or government engagement. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of UK government systems and international policy environments, along with a strong track record of leading complex policy programmes.
You should bring proven leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to motivate teams and manage competing priorities. Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building abilities are essential, as is the capacity to operate confidently at senior levels across government and international institutions.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills are critical, along with strategic thinking and sound judgement. Experience working across sectors and contributing to organisational strategy will be highly valued.
Location, Salary and Working Arrangements
The role is primarily based at Wiston House, Steyning, West Sussex, with opportunities for hybrid working, including time at UK government offices in London. Travel within the UK and occasionally internationally may be required to support programmes and stakeholder engagement.
- Salary: £81,000 per annum
- Working Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
- Expected Start Date: April/May 2026, subject to security clearance
