DAG Is Hiring a Dynamic Public Relations, Media and Communications Intern in Cape Town – Apply by 16 January 2026

The Development Action Group (DAG), a respected non-profit and non-governmental organisation in South Africa, is seeking a Public Relations, Media and Communications Intern based in Cape Town. This opportunity is ideal for a motivated graduate or early-career professional who is passionate about communications, advocacy, and social justice, and who wants to gain hands-on experience within a mission-driven organisation.

DAG’s mission is to create, implement, and support community-centred development initiatives that address long-standing economic, social, and spatial imbalances. Through research, advocacy, and collaboration with communities and partners, DAG works to influence policy and practice in housing and urban development. Joining the organisation as an intern offers the chance to contribute to meaningful social change while developing practical communication skills.

About the Internship

This is a paid internship offered on a one-year fixed-term contract, subject to a probation period. The role is expected to begin on 1 March 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. The intern will report to the Programme Director and work closely with DAG’s communications and programme teams.

The internship is designed to provide broad exposure to communications work within an advocacy-focused non-profit environment. The successful candidate will support DAG’s advocacy and lobbying agenda by helping communicate the organisation’s work, impact, and values clearly and creatively to diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will assist in developing, shaping, and managing DAG’s communications across multiple platforms. This includes contributing to media relations, social media, the website, newsletters, and the annual report.

This also includes repackaging research and programme outputs into accessible and compelling communication products for different audiences, both digital and print.

The role involves supporting efforts to strengthen media relationships by drafting press materials, engaging with journalists, and identifying opportunities to expand DAG’s reach. The intern will also help identify and develop communication channels to better connect with target audiences.

Managing DAG’s social media platforms, including developing content, sharing relevant stories, and engaging with online audiences, will be a key responsibility. In addition, the intern will support initiatives to enhance DAG’s digital presence by growing online audiences, increasing engagement, and helping create a more consistent brand across digital platforms.

Monitoring and analysing engagement across communication platforms will form part of the role, helping inform ongoing improvements to communication strategies.
