Position Overview: Social Media Associate

The Social Media Associate plays a vital role in bringing One Earth’s mission to life online. This role focuses on creating, publishing, and managing engaging climate and nature-focused content across multiple platforms.

Working closely with the Digital Media Director and the broader communications team, the ideal candidate will be creative, detail-oriented, and mission-driven. You’ll need a strong instinct for visual storytelling, clarity in writing, and consistency in brand voice. Most importantly, you must believe in the power of social media to inspire learning, connection, and action around climate and biodiversity.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Publishing

You will create and schedule engaging posts across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, and BlueSky. This includes:

• Adapting articles, graphics, videos, and campaigns into platform-optimized formats
• Writing compelling captions aligned with One Earth’s tone and mission
• Maintaining visual and narrative consistency across channels

This role requires both creativity and strategic thinking to ensure content resonates with diverse audiences.

Community Engagement

Beyond publishing content, you will actively engage with the online community by:

• Monitoring comments, messages, and mentions
• Responding thoughtfully or flagging issues when needed
• Tracking conversations around climate, conservation, and biodiversity

Your goal is to help foster a positive, inclusive, and informed online space that encourages dialogue and action.

Content Coordination & Team Collaboration

The Social Media Associate will support campaign rollouts and content calendars in coordination with the Digital Communications team. This includes:

• Organizing and tagging digital assets
• Assisting with content optimization
• Collaborating with designers, writers, and program staff to ensure accuracy

This cross-functional collaboration ensures all messaging remains aligned with One Earth’s broader strategy and values.

Analytics & Optimization

Data plays a critical role in digital storytelling. You will:

• Track key social media metrics such as engagement, reach, and follower growth
• Identify trends and opportunities for content improvement
• Support reporting and campaign performance reviews

A basic understanding of analytics tools and performance metrics is essential.

Qualifications

Required Experience

• 2–4 years of experience managing or supporting social media for a nonprofit, brand, or mission-driven organization
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Familiarity with major platforms and tools such as Sprout Social
• Basic understanding of analytics
• Excellent organizational skills
• A genuine passion for climate, biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, sustainability, or environmental justice

Preferred Skills

• Experience creating simple graphics or short-form videos (Canva, Adobe tools, native platform tools)
• Knowledge of accessibility best practices such as alt text and inclusive language
• Comfort appearing on camera or voice recordings
• Experience developing culturally responsive and engaging content
